Recording Typing from Desktop keyboards
The device is primarily designed to record typing on the keyboard of a standard laptop. However, it can also record typing on desktop PC's including USB and PS/2 keyboards - see below.
Recording Typing from the PS/2 Keyboard on a Desktop PC
Although the device is primarily designed to record typing on the keyboard of a standard laptop, it also records typing from the PS/2 keyboard of a desktop PC.
Purchase a "PCI-to-MiniPCI adaptor" card such as the KPCIAD24 (available from secure online ordering page). Plug the KeyCarbon Raptor card into the PCI-to-MiniPCI adaptor card.
- All keystrokes typed on the keyboard of the PC will be recorded to the flash memory card inserted into the KeyCarbon Raptor card.
- No wires to install - the card reads PS/2 keystrokes straight from the PCI bus on the computer motherboard by looking directly at system RAM.
- Invisible to a cursory search, unless the case of the desktop PC is opened up.
- Software free - the card is 100% passive, requires no drivers.
- NOTE: although this functionality is officially not supported, unofficially it is compatible with every known PC. It uses the same custom recording FPGA chip from the "KeyCarbon USB".
- Total install time: 20 seconds.
Recording Typing from a USB Keyboard on a Desktop PC
Although the device is primarily designed to record typing on the keyboard of a standard laptop, it also records typing from the USB keyboard of a desktop PC.
- Open the case of the desktop PC.
- Every USB keyboard has 4 wires. Run the signals from the 4 wires on the keyboard (Power, Ground, D-, D+) into the appropriate pins on the KeyCarbon Raptor card.
- All keystrokes typed on the USB keyboard of the PC will be immediately recorded to the flash memory card inserted into the KeyCarbon Raptor card.
- Invisible to a cursory search, unless the case of the desktop PC is opened up.
- Software free - the card is 100% passive, requires no drivers.
- NOTE: although this functionality is officially not supported, unofficially it is compatible with every known PC.
- Total install time: 30 seconds.
- This 30-second estimate is for trained personnell only, for untrained personnell this figure will be closer to 15 minutes including the learning curve.
- The feature of recording from a USB keyboard is recommended for advanced users only, and requires 3rd party cables that are not present in the package.
